For nearly 30 years, Jackie Zeman has portrayed Bobbie Spencer, the sister of Port Charles’s central figure, Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary), on General Hospital.  Now, the 54-year-old soap actress has been taken off contract, changing her role status from contract basis to recurring.

The news doesn’t really come as a surprise to the veteran actress as her character on General Hospital has been lacking of a solid storyline for quite some time now.  Although Bobbie Spencer remains to be popular among fans, she has largely become a non-existent character, surfacing onto the canvass only a few times a month to visit her family in Port Charles.

“It’s been a great ride,” Zeman said on her time with the ABC soap. “I’ve been on General Hospital for 30 years.  I am so thankful and I am such a lucky girl.  If there’s story for me, there’s story.  If there’s not… then there’s no story.  If the audience didn’t want me then I wouldn’t still be there [on the show.]”

Zeman appeared as Lana McClain on One Life to Live and had a brief appearance on The Edge of Night prior to joining the cast of General Hospital in 1977.  While portraying Bobbie Spencer on the long-running soap, she also acquired numerous projects, guest roles and cameos in Young Doctors in Love, Class Reunion, and Jury Duty: The Comedy.  She also landed appearances on Chicago Hope and Disney’s California Adventure TV Special.

Besides General Hospital, fans can also catch Jackie Zeman in the 2008 movie Deep in the Valley. Zeman plays the role of Sonja Monia in a comedy about best friends who find themselves magically transported into an alternate universe straight out of a real-life adult movie.  The project is currently in post-production stages and is written and directed by Christian Forte.
