True Blood is adding fresh blood to its lineup. Recently, the HBO vampire series was renewed for a second season despite modest ratings and just being a few episodes into its debut season. Guest stars Mehcad Brooks, Todd Lowe, Deborah Ann Woll and Michelle Forbes have all been promoted to series regulars in preparation for the show’s second season.
All four will make their appearance on this season’s finale to air later this fall, except for Gilmore Girls alum Lowe, whose character Terry Bellefleur already appeared in the second episode. Brooks will play Benedict “Eggs” Talley, a “mellow, guitar-strumming refugee from a hard life.” Brooks is best known for his role on Desperate Housewives.
As far as ratings go, True Blood has made a slight improvement in ratings, averaging 1.82 million viewers going to its fifth week. Taking into account DVR, on-demand, and repeat data, the series’ first two episodes average around 5.9 million viewers each, figures which could very well have influenced HBO’s renewing it so soon.
On the last episode of True Blood, Jason (Sookie’s brother, played by Ryan Kwanten) was once again taken into custody after another Bon Temps resident was mysteriously murdered. Now Sookie (Anna Paquin) had to take matters into her own hands to discover the identity of the real killer and clear his brother’s name in the process. Meanwhile, Bill (Stephen Moyer) took Sookie to the vampire bar Fangtasia, where she met Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), a Viking vampire and Bill’s superior.
The upcoming episode, meanwhile, called “Sparks Fly Out,” Bill wins over Adele’s church audience when his brilliant recollections from the Civil War. Andy and Bud remain suspicious, though. Meanwhile, Sam makes the most of his time with Sookie, who isn’t really ready to commit.
Catch True Blood on HBO this Sunday at 9pm.
