Dance Moms season 3 has been full of a lot of ups and downs, plus more than a few battles. On this week’s episode, called “All’s Fair in Love and War,” there is a little bit of love and a whole lot of war.

Bring in the Boy

The episode begins with the girls meeting for the pyramid and, in true Abby fashion, Abby is unhappy with all of their performances, even though they won the previous week’s competition. So what does Abby do to stir things up? Well, she decides to take a page out of Cathy’s book and decides to bring in a male influence to see if that will bring the group routine up a few notches. Of course her plan doesn’t work and even though I personally thought the routine was beautiful

(as did the audience apparently); the judges didn’t agree and gave it second place.

Love is in the air

This whole episode seemed to be about love in one way or another. First there was the group routine and the fact that it was all about the girls acting as if they’d fallen in love with a handsome boy. Also, there was the moms taking Miss Abby out for the night and bringing her to a speed-dating event. I thought for sure that Abby would take one look at where they were taking her and walk out, but instead she got really into it and seemed to be having the time of her life. As much as Abby annoys me sometimes with her sour attitude with her students, I couldn’t help but to crack up during the speed-dating scenes. Turns out Abby can be a real hoot when she wants to be.

Love is War, Baby

But of course this wouldn’t be an episode of Dance Moms if there wasn’t some sort of clash between the moms and/or Abby and this episode was no different. While everyone was talking about love and acting as a team, Jill was once again proving that she’ll do whatever it takes to get her child ahead, even if that means getting a few extra lessons for Kendall to help her shine in the duet with Nia. You know, I can’t really begrudge her that, but it would’ve been nice if she would have stopped trying to hide it from the other moms.

My favorite bits:

Abby’s little dance after the kids walked out of the studio.

Abby going over all of things she liked in a man.

The questions that Abby asked the guys on her dates. They were hilarious!

The moms sitting around watching Abby on her speed dates, and making comments.

Abby admitting that she used to do it on the 5-yard line.

The moms discussing Abby’s boyfriend, who is apparently gay.

Nia telling Jill that she was going to do the duet even though she didn’t feel well. Go Nia!

McKenzie’s solo. Simply adorable as always.

The fact that Holly put her anger on Jill and not on the teacher who kept getting wrangled into giving Kendall extra lessons.

Maddie’s solo.

Jill pointing out that they brought her back to be a team, but she weren’t doing that.

The group number. I thought it was beautiful.

What did you think of this episode of Dance Moms? Do you think that Jill is right to keep trying to get Kendall ahead any way she can? Or do you agree with some of the other moms that they need to start acting more like a team?
