Criminal Minds is no stranger to replacing cast members, and everyone knew that there would be someone new joining the team in season 10 after Jeanne Tripplehorn’s Alex Blake (somewhat) quietly said her goodbye in the season 9 finale after two seasons.

Well, you don’t have to wonder any longer who will be filling that seat, because CBS has announced that Jennifer Love Hewitt is the show’s newest series regular. She will be introduced in the season 10 premiere, which will air on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 9pm.

Hewitt will be playing Kate Callahan, a seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted spot with the Behavioral Analysis Unit. “We’re thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast,” executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer has said in a statement. “Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season.”

Hewitt’s previous television credits include Ghost Whisperer, The Client List, and Party of Five, and her film credits include I Know What You Did Last Summer and its sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, as well as Heartbreakers, The Tuxedo, and Garfield and Garfield 2: A Tale of Two Kitties.

Criminal Minds Season 9 Finale Recap: One of the Team Members Says Goodbye>>>

The Criminal Minds cast has changed somewhat since it first premiered, with current cast members Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, AJ Cook and Kirsten Vangsness all part of the show since the first season. (Cook briefly left during the sixth season only to return for what could have been Paget Brewster‘s final episode and for the finale to mark her return to the team.) As mentioned above, Tripplehorn was the latest departure, as her character left her credentials with Gubler’s Dr. Reid following the team’s return home from the two-part season finale case.

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
