Carrie Underwood Scores 10th Platinum Single

Last month, Carrie Underwood‘s new album, Blown Away, debuted on the charts at #1 and held there for two weeks in a row. Now, more good news heads her way, as her label Sony Nashville sent out a press release announcing that Carrie’s single “Good Girl” has been downloaded 1 million times and is now certified platinum. This is her 10th digital single to meet or exceed platinum status.

From the press release:

“Upon its release on May 1, Blown Away made history by debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country albums sales chart making Carrie only the second country artist in the 47 year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at No. 1. Blown Away also debuts at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart making Carrie only the second country artist in history to have three consecutive albums debut at No. 1. Blown Away became country’s best-selling digital album debut since 2010.”

Jermaine Jones Heads to Court

Over the years, American Idol has had its share of controversy, including having to disqualify contestants for covering up criminal records or other indiscretions. This year, if you recall, Jermaine Jones was asked to leave the show by Nigel Lythgoe (with the encounter actually airing on TV) after it came out that he had multiple charges against him and warrants out for his arrest.

Now Jones has made an appearance in court for these charges. The Gloucester TownshipPatch reports, “There was no resolution to the charges Tuesday. Gloucester Township Municipal Court Judge Nicholas Trabosh said all the charges would be handled together within the next 30 days. The judge did not set a date for Jones’ next hearing.”

So the drama continues. But Jones did say that once everything is settled and in the past, he plans on releasing an album as soon as possible. “There’s a lot of great things going on,” he says. We can look to someone like season 2’s Corey Clark to see that it’s going to be very difficult to overcome this hurdle and have any success in the music business.

Phillip Phillips Goes to D.C. (and Jessica to the Philippines)

As BuddyTV reported last week, Phillip Phillips had a successful surgery to remove kidney stones. He’s currently recovering, but that’s not stopping him from planning his next move. Before embarking on the American Idol summer tour, Phillips will make a stop in Washington, D.C. to perform his hit single “Home” on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. This concert, to celebrate our nation’s birthday, will air on PBS on July 4 (check your local listings for airings in your area).

Meanwhile, Jessica Sanchez is finalizing tour plans beyond this summer’s tour with her fellow Idols. According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, she will be flying to the Philippines in October to headline her own concerts in Manila, Bataan, Baguio, Cebu and Davao, with a sixth stop still being worked out. No specific dates are known at this time.
