Tonight’s edition of Buddy Bites kicks off with a trip to the hospital — and no, I don’t mean Seattle Grace.

Nick Cannon in hospital today after suffering from what his wife, Mariah Carey, described as “mild kidney failure”. People reports that the couple spent the holidays in Aspen, CO, but now they’re spending it in a hospital, as the America’s Got Talent host recovers. “We’re trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts be tcause this is very painful,” Carey wrote on her website. He’s hoping he does fine before AGT returns this summer.

Cougar Town‘s bosses get feisty: despite still being benched by ABC this midseason, the comedy’s creators, Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel, have decided to stage their own panel at this year’s Television Critics Association winter press tour. The two sent out a YouTube invite to members of the press this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s another one of the show’s promotional activities not backed by ABC, following a planned cross-country tour featuring the show’s cast and crew.

USA Network’s original series return to Friday nights, with the second season of Sarah Shahi’s Fairly Legal and the final season of Mary McCormack’s In Plain Sight set to premiere on May 16, and every Friday after that. The network began airing reruns and syndicated shows on Friday nights in 2009, but the night was previously home to some of the network’s more enduring originals such as Monk and White Collar.

Homeland and 24 executive producer Howard Gordon is sued by the family of a man who his wife fatally hit with her car last year. Cambria Lee Gordon struck 83-year-old William Howard Smerling last July, when she dropped her phone and took her eyes off the wheel; he later died of his injuries. Now his family is seeking damages for his death, according to TMZ. The Gordons have been cooperating with authorities since the accident.

Finally, some good news, also from TMZ: more proof of why Sofia Vergara kicks ass. She and a friend helped a woman who suddenly collapsed on the floor of a Las Vegas casino, accompanying her until she was brought to a nearby hospital. To be fair, her friend was the one with the medical experience which stopped things from getting worse…
