As Haley James Scott on One Tree Hill, Bethany Joy Galeotti has had a chance to play many different sides of her character over the years.  Now that season 5 is set four years in the future, fans get to see Haley attempt to balance being both a high school teacher and a mom, as well as witnessing the ups and downs of her continuing marriage to Nathan (James Lafferty).  The CW Source recently caught up with Galeotti to discuss Haley’s musical pursuits, what it was like to work with Kevin Federline, how it feels to portray a new mom, and the many layers of Haley’s personality.

Luckily for Galeotti, she wasn’t at all nervous about the prospect of playing a mom on screen.  “I was really excited,” she said.  “I have a maternal instinct with kids.  I just love them, and I love being around them.  I’ve got a couple of friends right now who are moms of toddlers, and new moms, so I got to sit and just chat with them and I’ve been around them so long to be able to observe their behavior with their kids.  A lot of the things that don’t come naturally to me I was able to pick up on and use.”

Though motherhood may be a bit of a challenge, fans know that Haley is a very meticulous individual.  She likes things in order and loves to have a degree of control over what’s happening in her life.  According to Galeotti, playing that type of character is great fun, even if she doesn’t share the same personality.

“I love having lots and lots of layers and things going on,” the actress said.  “If you’ve noticed, I’m almost always using props in my scenes.  I’m always doing something.  I’m always wanting the character to be not just standing still, but to be constantly moving.  The movement for me has been great, because what does a Type A personality do when everything’s wrong?  That’s really how Haley handles everything.  I’m not a Type A personality, but Haley [has to] have everything under control, because if she doesn’t have everything under control everything’s going to fall apart.  She can’t be emotional about anything.  She can’t get too happy, she can’t get too sad.  Everything has to be really controlled.”

One thing fans have wondered is if anything would become of Haley’s singing career now that four years have passed.  “There’s not much to it right now,” Galeotti admitted.  “She’s a teacher.  She probably just sings lullabies to Jamie and that’s what she does.  But I don’t think, as far as a career, she’s thinking like music career.  That’s not something that’s in the forefront of her mind right now.”

Though Haley may not be doing any singing this season, she has been seen in the studio attempting to help Jason (Kevin Federline) produce an album.  As for working with Federline, Galeotti had nothing but positive things to say about the experience.

“I’ve got some great scenes with Kevin, who was wonderful, by the way,” the actress pointed out.  “I can’t say enough nice things about this guy.  Very professional, and really fun and funny and humble.  Just a great guy.”

Fans will get a chance to see glimpses of the missing four years in Haley’s life in this week’s episode of One Tree Hill, which will flash back to many moments between seasons 4 and 5.  That episode, entitled “I Forgot to Remember to Forget,” airs Tuesday at 9pm on the CW.
