Tonight, CSI: Miami returns with a brand-new episode, featuring actress Elizabeth Berkley (Saved by the Bell) as a guest star.  In tonight’s installment, which was the last to be completed before the writers’ strike began, Berkley portrays Horatio Caine’s (David Caruso) ex and Kyle’s (Evan Ellingson) mother.  She is reunited with Horatio when her billionaire husband is unexpectedly murdered.

“There still may be a lot of love there,” Berkley said of their relationship in an interview with ET, although noting that the “stakes are high.  It is rare that they get into his personal life.”

Berkley had been thrilled to learn that she was being offered a role on CSI: Miami, but got even more excited when she find out that she would appear opposite Caruso in most of her scenes.

“He is so passionate about his work. I love that,” she told ET.  “[When that happens], you can go places you didn’t think you could.”

Berkley didn’t have to audition for the role, which made having the right chemistry with David Caruso her main concern.

“That kind of magic was there.  You can’t play that,” she said, although admitting that her first day on the job felt like “the first day of school jitters.”

As previously mentioned, tonight’s broadcast of CSI: Miami is the final pre-strike episode, which means that fans will have to wait until the writers strike is over to watch brand new episodes.  However, fans will have something to tide themselves over with the second issue of the official CSI magazine.  The issue, and hit stores last Tuesday, centers on CSI: Miami and contains interviews from some of the show’s cast and crew.

The latest offering from Titan Magazines features interviews with show stars David Caruso, Emily Procter (Calleigh Duquesne) and Khandi Alexander (Dr. Alexx Woods), as well as show director Sam Hill.

Catch CSI: Miami tonight at 10pm on CBS.
