The Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That…, wrapped up its third season — and the series — on August 14, 2025. Here’s what happened in the finale, why the show is ending, and how it’s being received by fans.

Why Is It Ending?

Showrunner Michael Patrick King announced in early August that Season 3 was always intended to be the final chapter, calling it “a wonderful place to stop.” The season order was even expanded from 10 to 12 episodes to deliver a two-part conclusion, and he confirmed the decision in an Instagram post, emphasizing the focus on the story rather than the finale announcement.

Viewership has declined throughout the revival’s run — Samba TV estimated the Season 3 premiere drew just 429,000 households, down 7% from Season 2.

What Happens in the And Just Like That… Finale?

The episode features the classic trio one last time — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) — as they navigate personal milestones and closures. Carrie ends her relationship with Aidan for good and completes her historical romance novel, concluding with the line: “not alone, she was on her own.”

Miranda deals with her son Brady’s teenage drama during a chaotic Thanksgiving that turns disgusting — literally, as a plumbing malfunction turns the dinner into a “vile plumbing disaster.”

Charlotte and Harry have a heartfelt moment of renewed intimacy after Harry’s recovery, and secondary characters like Seema and Lisa also reach emotional beats.

The ending echoes the original series: Carrie dancing alone in her apartment to a classic love song — but instead of “You Got the Love,” she quietly asserts her independence.

Critical & Fan Reactions

The Guardian described the finale as “sad, heavy-handed and far too faecal,” noting the episode leaned into absurd humor rather than delivering a farewell with punch.

The Ringer reflected on the entire SATC universe drawing to a close, lamenting that “the series ended just after it got good,” and that the characters felt more authentic in Season 3 even as the audience dwindled.

What’s Next — For the Characters and the Saga

With the show concluded and carrying the legacy of Sex and the City, the characters’ futures are left open-ended. Carrie, now at peace in her solo life, steps into a quieter but self-defined future. Whether this is truly the end of the universe remains to be seen—but the door feels quietly closed for now.
