This July, tune in to ABC Family as they tackle the pertinent issue of online bullying with their latest original movie, Cyberbully. Emily Osment of Hannah Montana fame leads the charge, playing protagonist Taylor Hillridge.
In Cyberbully, 17-year-old student Taylor receives a computer for her birthday and soon falls victim to digital drama. As she gets more involved, she finds herself dealing with the decline of her social status, discovering how damaging a few words can be. As she reaches her breaking point, she withdraws from her friends and family, even losing focus in her studies. It’s up to her to find the strength to get past online bullying, with a little help from those who care about her the most.
Also starring in Cyberbully are Kay Panabaker as Taylor’s best friend and Kelly Rowan as Kris, her mother. You can watch the trailer below:
In addition to Cyberbully, ABC Family has teamed up with Seventeen magazine to raise awareness of the issue and prevent it from happening even more. Starting tomorrow, July 5, they’re launching the Delete Digital Drama campaign.
They’ve scheduled the live event called “Rally to Delete Digital Drama”, this Thursday, July 14 at 4pm at The Americana at Brand in Glendale, California. Helping to promote the cause are several ABC Family stars, including Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell and Daren Kagasoff of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
Skyler Samuels and Grey Damon from The Nine Lives of Chloe King are also in attendance, as well as Switched at Birth‘s Katie Leclerc and Vanessa Marano. Of course, Cyberbully star Emily Osment won’t be missing this too. A surprise musical guest will be in attendance as well, and fans will also get to experience an autograph signing and receive giveaways.
Also, catch Emily Osment as she makes a PSA about helping out the non-profit organization StompoutBullying.org when Cyberbully premieres on Sunday, July 17 at 8pm on ABC Family.
