Fans of Showtime's
The L Word should start gearing up for the upcoming final season of series, which is set to join two other shows premiering in January. Tagged by Showtime as a “fab female triple-header,” January 18 will see the final episode of
The L Word premiering, followed by the comedy
United States of Tara and the second season of
Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
We previously reported that
The L Word will be spawning a spin-off, which Showtime CEO Matt Blank says will come from the “storyline at the end of
The L Word, the final episode in the final season, [in which] there will be an open-ended component to it.”
"[Creator] Ilene [Chaiken] is going to carry that story along on the Internet, which we think is an interesting way to keep
The L Word experience going," he explained. "Then if we decide to go ahead with the spinoff that storyline will segue into the new series."
The L Word stars
Jennifer Beals,
Leisha Hailey,
Katherine Moennig,
Laurel Holloman,
Mia Kirshner,
Rachel Shelley,
Daniela Sea and
Pam Grier, and will deliver the eight and final season, which begins airing on January 18 at 9pm. At 10pm, Showtime will be premiering the half-hour comedy titled United States of Tara, starring Toni Collette as a suburban wife and mother who struggles in dealing with dissociative identity disorder. Also starring in the new series is John Corbett, who formerly appeared in
Northern Exposure,
The Visitor,
Love Chronicles and
Sex and the City. The series is created by Oscar-winning Diablo Cody, who worked on the film Juno and will be executively produced by Steven Spielberg among others.
At 10:30pm, United States of Tara will end to give way to the
Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which brings back
Billie Piper,
Iddo Goldberg,
Cherie Lunghi and Iddo Goldberg for the show's second season.
Don't forget to catch Showtime's “fab female triple-header” beginning January 18 at 9pm.
