Fans of The Fosters are counting down the days for season 2 to resume this month. But there’s even more exciting news ahead of the mid-season premiere: the ABC Family drama has been renewed for a third season.

If the first two seasons are any indication, then season 3 will premiere in June and run until August before going on hiatus halfway through.

“We are thrilled to be making more episodes of The Fosters — a show that has not only garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards but resonates with our passionate and committed audience,” Karen Burke, Executive Vice President of Programming and Development at ABC Family, said in a statement.

The Fosters centers on police officer Stef and vice principal Lena as they raise their foster and biological children. Brandon is Stef’s son from a previous marriage, Mariana and Jesus are adopted twins, and Jude has recently been adopted. Jude’s sister, Callie, is working towards being adopted, though complications arise along the way.

The series, executive produced by American Idol judge and music superstar Jennifer Lopez, stars Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Jake T. Austin, Hayden Byerly, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci and Cierra Ramirez.

The drama has been lauded for its storylines and portrayal of LGBT characters, having won a Television Academy Honors Award and GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series, along with a TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming and a Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Breakout Show. Jennifer Lopez was awarded the GLAAD Vanguard Award in 2014.

ABC Family notes that The Fosters is the #1 scripted cable TV series for its time period in the target demos, having averaged 2.6 million total viewers, 1.3 million in the 18-49 demo and 1.3 million in the 12-34 demo during its summer 2014 run.

Along with this renewal, ABC Family has picked up an unscripted series called Job or No Job. In each episode, a young adult will go on three job interviews, and viewers will watch as they attempt to land their first job. “Job or No Job is also an important addition to our growing reality slate that will appeal to anyone who has ever gone on a job interview.”
