Days after reports surfaced about their
indefinitely postponed wedding, former
Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky and her chosen groom-to-be Roberto Martinez have ended their relationship entirely.
"Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez have ended their relationship,"
their rep said, adding, "As they go through this difficult time, we ask that you respect the couple's privacy."
Aw. And we really thought this Bachelor couple might actually make it! No, really.
Ali and Roberto have been engaged for 18 months, after Roberto got down on one knee and popped the question to Ali in
the Bachelorette season 6 finale in 2010. Since then, Roberto, an insurance agent, moved to San Diego to be closer to Ali as she pursued jobs as a TV personality.
In public, the couple always seemed happy and very much in love, but
US Weekly cites one insider as saying, "their relationship has been tumultuous since day one. They're either extremely happy or they can't stand each other."
It doesn't seem as though ABC was aware that one of their few 'successful' couples had trouble brewing. Ali and Roberto appeared on
the Bachelor Pad season 2 finale this summer, when Ali joined the franchise's two happily married former stars, Trista Sutter and Jason Mesnick, in judging the final challenge. Roberto was shown chivalrously carrying Ali, who was recovering from knee surgery, to the judges' table.
The couple also appeared next to Trista and Ryan and Jason and Molly
during Brad Womack's After the Final Rose special to give advice on how to survive as a
Bachelor couple. At the time, Roberto advised Brad's fiancee Emily Maynard to stay inside a mental bubble to keep her relationship safe. As we know, Brad and Emily called it quits soon after.
