It’s finally here: after years of moved premiere dates, images of dinosaurs and all-around hype, Fox’s big-budget drama Terra Nova hits our television screens. Our turn, then, to see what this show about people travelling back to the time of dinosaurs to start again is all about.
In the off chance you’ve been living under a rock all these years (and to that, I say “really?”) Terra Nova revolves around the Shannon family: dad Jim (Jason O’Mara), mom Elisabeth (Shelley Conn) and their kids Josh (Landon Liboiron), Maddy (Naomi Scott) and Zoe (Alana Mansour). They join a pilgrimage from Earth — which, in 2149, is unsustainable to human life — and travel 85 million years back in time, to a new colony where they have to start again.

Leading that colony is the enigmatic Commander Nathaniel Taylor (Stephen Lang), the head of the new colony. Along the way the family meet new people: fellow Terra Nova resident Skye (Allison Miller), Elisabeth’s medical colleague Dr. Malcolm Wallace (Rod Hallett), and rebel leader Mira (Christine Adams). And, of course, the dinosaurs.

We’ve shown you a bunch of behind-the-scenes videos over the past few weeks, and with the premiere hours away, we thought we’d show you sneak peeks from tonight’s two-hour premiere. You might’ve seen some of these clips already (you know, on the promos) but at least there aren’t a lot of whooshing sounds in here that screams “promo!”

Anyway, clip number one is about the Shannon family making that trip, and one last roadblock for Jim:

Clip number two is Commander Taylor’s welcome speech to new arrivals:

Clip number three sees Commander Taylor confronting Jim about his arrival to Terra Nova. Jim is, after all, a guy with a past.

And finally, clip number four: Josh and Skye do some jumping into the water and stuff. Oh, and mysterious etchings, too.

Terra Nova premieres tonight from 8pm on Fox.
