There are some things that, when you hear them, you laugh because you
know they're a joke. "No way," you mutter to yourself. Such is the
news I offer today: Paris Hilton will be guest starring on
Supernatural.
Kristin at E! has confirmed that the heiress looking for a BFF on MTV
will make a guest starring appearance in episode 5 this season on
Supernatural. And no, this is not an April Fool's joke. Popcorn.
(Note: I'll send anyone who gets that fairly obscure TV reference a
virtual gift and a shout-out.)
What does Eric Kripke have to say about it? In a press release, he said, "Paris Hilton is playing a demonic creature that takes the form of....Paris Hilton. It'll be a fun, irreverent episode and we here at
Supernatural are thrilled that Paris agreed to do it." They also added that she will be appearing on the October 8 episode, hilariously titled "American Idol."
Now, let me examine some evidence. Hilton, of course, co-starred with
Supernatural's Jared Padalecki in the horror film
House of Wax. And Paris has a bit of experience appearing on amazing TV shows, guest starring on one of the first episodes of
Veronica Mars. She didn't kill that show, nor did she harm
The O.C. or
My Name is Earl, two other shows she's been on.
And this kind of thing isn't always as awful as it sounds.
How I Met Your Mother got Britney Spears and that was perfectly fine, so maybe this isn't the end of the world. I'm trying as hard as I can to find rationales for this odd casting choice, so let's all just hope and pray that Eric Kripke and company know what they're doing. They always have in the past.
