Smallville
ended season 8 with a shocking double murder as Davis and Jimmy both died, but the real shock was the rise of Zod.  Now, for those who have already read all the Comic-Con news and have digested the season 9 info that was revealed, most of the spoilers won't come as a surprise.  Then again, we did try to hold back on those stories.  It's this spoiler article that really has the lowdown, from the identity of Zod (not just the actor) to Clark being inches away from becoming Superman.

The spoilers below have very little shame.

According to TV Guide magazine, being the Red Blue Blur has been growing into an obsession for Clark Kent (Tom Welling).  He'll be employing a "new approach to fighting crime," which has something to do with the abundance of iconic "S" symbols this season.

The action kicks off easily on this installment of Smallville, as we'll already get a peek at the new villains for season 9.  As most fans already know, Callum Blue has been pegged to play the evil Zod, but to what extent?

Showrunner Brian Peterson confirmed that the villain we'll see this season isn't exactly what many expect.  "This is a different incarnation of Zod," he announced.  "We're introducing him as Major Zod--this is before he became General Zod."

Kelly Souders added: "[O]ver the course of the season, the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters."

It's also been confirmed that Zod will be having his own minions - the Kryptonian cronies Faora and Basquat.  Surely Zod isn't the only problem Clark has to deal with this season, and out comes Metallo.  Playing this Superman comics villain and his alter ego John Corben is Brian Austin Green, known for his roles in Beverly Hills 90210 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Metallo will be appearing on the first two episodes of season 9 as a new reporter on the Daily Planet, who ends up with a Kryptonite heart.  The first episode - "Savior" - will already reveal the guy's backstory and why he's such a sociopath.

Other baddies seem ready to surface though.  There's speculation that a villain from the past will be returning, in addition to other DC characters being cast.  This includes a brother-sister duo called "Twyla and Tanner," which many believe are the Wonder Twins Jayna and Zan.  We might even get to see their blue monkey Gleek on the episode "Idol" as the two transform into an ice sheet and a cougar.

There's also the appearance of the Justice Society of America, as Geoff Johns said during the San Diego Comic-Con.  On a later interview, he declared that the Justice Society will be seen on Smallville aged in their 40s, but without Jay Garrick and Alan Scott.

Speaking of transformations, Oliver's going to be undergoing some major ones when he meets his mentor.  Or is this his eventual nemesis?  Actor Steve Bacic will be playing the Dark Archer on the episode "Disciple," teaching the Green Arrow how it's all done.  Oliver gets a new suit as well, and sidekick Speedy AKA Mia (Elise Gatien) will also make an appearance, returning after her introduction in "Crossfire."

Meanwhile, there's a strain in the relationship of Chloe (Allison Mack) and Clark.  Plenty of tension is to be expected, as she's no longer content with the sidekick role.  But Kelly Souders hinted that she's going to have a "budding romance from an expected source."  Towards the end of the season, "Chloe is going to meet a new hero who is not all that he's cracked up to be."  While the executive producer won't drop the name, she said, "it's somebody fans of the show will be familiar with."

Romance kicks off for Lois and Clark this season too, owing to their kiss in "Crossfire," but she's got more issues to handle aside from him.  Lois is kidnapped and disappears for weeks, and ends up getting visions of the future.  On the episode "Pandora," a surprise is in store for everyone.

"It's huge," Souders exclaimed.  "You'll see an alternate ending for everyone in the cast.  You'll see what could happen to them and the future is dramatic.  You won't be disappointed."

Season nine has given us a lot to be excited about, but it's the guest stars that seem to be taking much of the spotlight.  There's bound to be more as the series progresses, especially when the Justice Society-themed episode comes along.

Michael Shanks, who has been cast as Hawkman, told the Huffington Post some details on his Smallville character.  He also spilled the beans on his fellow Justice Society members, like Doctor Fate and Stargirl.

On episode 9.12 "Society:"
Shanks said, "Let's just say that a few of the Justice Society characters have come out of retirement to meet up with an old foe and happen to cross paths with Clark and some of the characters from the Justice League.  And let's just say there are some misunderstandings.  [...]  There's going to be some conflict.  Both with heroes and villains alike."

On Hawkman: "Hawkman being the alpha in the Justice Society, being someone who...has made some missteps along the way, can or could represent a type of mentor character to Clark in his leadership abilities with his burgeoning team members of the Justice League.  He represents a character that has a lot of wisdom to pass down to this next generation, so there is a strong possibility that once the initial phase wears off that there will be a coming together of those two to paint a larger portrait of the future, of what Clark has available to him and what his options are."

On Doctor Fate: "There's a really neat relationship between he and Hawkman that makes the first episode quite heart-wrenching.  There are aspects of it that are heart-wrenching as a result of that relationship.  And I thought that was a very cool aspect of the first episode."

Martian Manhunter will also be on the Society episode, which unfortunately won't have its share of Lois.  She might return on "Legends" though, the second installment of this two-part special.

Also hoping to return is season 3's Perry White (Michael McKean), the alcoholic tabloid reporter who almost exposed Clark's secret.  Brian Peterson hinted that 'The Chief' will most likely be "working his way to the Daily Planet."

There's just so much to take in on this season of Smallville, making it yet another explosive installment for the show.
