CW President Defends Friday Move>>After eight seasons, you'd think they'd move to a new direction. Unfortunately, that isn't the case with the producers of
Smallville, who are staying true to their focus on Clark Kent. That seems to be the point of the whole series, after all - his development into the superhero millions look up to.
Anyway, the guys behind the show have given out even more hints on season 9 of
Smallville. Bottom line is, there's going to be dark moments and romantic ones, in addition to this highly awaited change in Clark's character.
Entertainment Weekly reported that co-showrunner Brian Peterson called season 9 "Clark's darkest hour" and many diehard fans reacted negatively to that. It looks like these guys aren't so fond of change. That was expected, since it was already difficult for them to accept the departure of beloved actors like Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk from the series.
Now that Brian Peterson heard about the audience's remarks, he offered his own take on the upcoming installment of the long-running CW series. The guy practically defended
Smallville season 9, once again telling the masses what they wanted to hear.
"We might've misled people a little bit with that," Peterson explained. "Clark has some very dark decisions to make and he starts the season in a very dark place, but the season itself won't be dark."
Perhaps one of the few dark scenes would be the one in which Lois and Clark fight zombies? Not really, since that bit's reserved for the romance.
"Clark and Lois will be back in each other's orbits and there will be a lot of the fun that we had last year--even more than we had last year."
As for other transformations regarding Tom Welling's character in season 9, the spotlight will definitely be on the guy. Showrunners have hinted that they're getting on the way to having Clark don his iconic suit, telling audiences at the Comic-Con how close that is.
"[H]e is definitely recognizing that there is a second identity for him," said showrunner Kelly Souders. "As much as he knows what Clark Kent looks like, he needs to figure out what the Superman part looks like. So it might not be the costume everybody is used to seeing, but it is one step closer to that."
What are you looking forward to on season 9?
