This Thursday’s episode of Smallville, “Veritas,” was the final installment of the series completed before the writers’ strike shut down production.  Producers of the CW drama thought that this episode might have to act as a season finale, so they made sure to wrap it up with a spectacular cliffhanger that would leave viewers talking.  Thankfully for Smallville fans, the writers’ strike came to an end, and the cliffhanger will now be resolved when the series returns with new episodes on April 17.

To get viewers pumped for Thursday night’s exciting installment, we have some promotional photos and a trailer from the episode.

The CW’s official description of the episode reads, “Kara (Laura Vandervoort) decides to teach Clark (Tom Welling) how to fly in order to strengthen his chances against Brainiac.  However, Brainiac seems to have the upper hand against the super cousins, and some of Clark’s loved ones are caught in the crossfire.”

Though the mantra of the Smallville producers has always been “no flights, no tights,” I would love it if Clark actually learned how to fly.  Come on, he’s Superman, it has to happen sooner or later.  Now that the series will be moving into its eighth and possibly final season, I think it’s a good time to get Clark up in the air.

The first photo shows Brainiac (James Marsters) and Kara having a conversation while Kara holds some strange, glowing device.

I have no idea what’s going on in this picture, though I do know that somebody’s backside is flying toward the camera.  It looks like Clark might use one of his powers to send Brainiac across the room.

In the final picture, Clark and Brainiac have a rooftop confrontation.

Check out the trailer for the episode below, which promises us that Clark will finally take to the skies:
