The CW has found its Oliver Queen, and it’s not the one from Smallville. According to Deadline, Hung star Stephen Amell has been cast as the archery loving superhero Green Arrow in the new CW pilot from Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

The role was popularly played by Justin Hartley on the CW drama Smallville, but as the new show has no connection to it, it’s no surprise that they went for a new Green Arrow.

Amell is no stranger to working with the CW. Last season he played Brady, a werewolf, on The Vampire Diaries, and earlier this season he played Jim, the presumed dead friend of Liam on 90210.

Amell currently has a recurring role on ABC’s Private Practice and he starred in the third and final season of HBO’s Hung as the new male prostitute competing with Ray. Amell also revealed a darker side last year, playing Joran van der Sloot in the Lifetime movie about Natalee Holloway.

While I will always love Hartley as Green Arrow, I like the choice of Amell. He’s good-looking enough to be a CW star and he’s proven himself as an actor, whether he’s playing a charming goofball (Hung) or a deadly villain (The Vampire Diaries).
