Ever since American Horror Story season 2 ended in January, Ryan Murphy has been playing coy on the specific plot for the show's return next fall. Some have made guesses online, and it turns out one of those predictions is right. Season 3, which according to Murphy is subtitled Coven, will center around witches.
And yes, AHS will still take place in the United States. But where exactly? "The fun thing is researching what are the really haunted places in America, and we have a couple doozy locales," he said at PaleyFest, confirming that filming is set to take place mostly in New Orleans. Whereas the interiors for seasons 1 and 2 were shot on a sound stage, he plans on taking advantage of shooting on location this year, with the story covering more than one city.
Fans expecting more spoilers may be left disappointed -- for now, at least. But at the event, Murphy brought on stage Jessica Lange, who's continuing with the show, and Oscar winner Kathy Bates, who's joining AHS
as a new cast member. "I wanted to see a lot of scenes with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates going at it," he went on to say, "so that's what you're going to see."A Terrifying Trend: Network Television Brings New Life to Horror >>>
Not much is know yet about their characters, but the showrunner said, "I pitched [Bates] this cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs character and said, 'Call me or email me.' An hour later my phone rang and she said, 'I'm in.'" That still doesn't tell us much. How about with Jessica Lange? Apparently, her character is considered a "glamour cat." Lange "doesn't know what a glamour cat is, but I'm excited."
As if creating a whole new story each year on American Horror Story isn't enough, there's the possibility of a spin-off show on FX, which would be a "companion piece" to AHS. If the potential project comes to fruition, it might center around vampires. "It would be really cool to do a couple of different incarnations of the [American Horror Story] idea," Murphy said during the panel. "But I can't talk too much about it."
