Last season on Once Upon a Time, something wicked came to Storybrooke. But season 4 will see something frozen making its way to town.

Idina Menzel may have been the voice of Elsa the Snow Queen in the hit Disney animated film, but when it comes to OUAT‘s version of Frozen, the character will be played by Fringe alum Georgina Haig.

This casting news comes just two days after it was announced that Elizabeth Lail and Scott Michael Foster would be playing Anna and Kristoff, respectively.

Once Upon a Time Casts Frozen Characters Anna and Kristoff >>>

Haig is an Australian actress. She has starred in various TV shows and movies in Australia, including Road Kill, The Sapphires and Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities. In America, she is known for her role as Henrietta “Etta” Bishop, Peter Bishop and Olivia Dunham’s daughter, on Fringe. She can currently be seen on the CBS drama Reckless.

According to the official casting call, Elsa has “long struggled to control her ‘chilling’ powers and even unleashed upon her town an eternal winter during her coronation. Ultimately, she realized that the key to controlling her powers is love — namely, her bond with her sister Anna — and now she is aware of the threat she poses if she were to lose control of her magic again.”

It looks like that’s exactly what’s going to happen on Once Upon a Time. The final scene of season 3 teased the introduction of Elsa. We didn’t see her face, though — for obvious reasons, since the actress had not been cast at the time. You can check out that scene below:

On bringing the hit movie to the small screen, OUAT co-creator Adam Horowitz told TVLine, “We are very well aware of how beloved [Frozen] is, so we’re very careful that we want to tell a story that is uniquely ours but also honors those characters that everyone fell in love with this past year.” Co-creator Eddy Kitsis said, “The thing we love about Elsa is she is perceived to be a villain but is clearly misunderstood, and that goes to the heart of our show.”

Elsa will be in about nine episodes of the show, whereas Anna will be in anywhere from six to eight, and Kristoff is in six episodes at most. And when the Frozen storyline begins in season 4, it will take place after the events of the movie.

What do you make of this casting announcement? Did they cast the right actress for Elsa? And now that the trio of Elsa, Anna and Kristoff is complete, are you more excited for season 4 now?

Once Upon a Time season 4 will begin airing this fall on ABC.
