Showtime Sets Return Dates for 'Nurse Jackie', 'The Big C' and 'The Borgias'
Showtime has announced the premiere dates for new seasons of its shows Nurse Jackie, The Big C and The Borgias.

Conveniently, they're all returning on April 8: Nurse Jackie's fourth season kicks off at 9pm, followed by the third season of The Big C at 9:30pm and the second season of The Borgias at 10pm.

Showtime's entertainment president David Nevins made the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Los Angeles -- and also revealed a few bits about the shows' upcoming seasons.

The new season of Nurse Jackie sees Edie Falco's titular character facing the consequences of her painkiller addiction and her crumbling marriage. "I wanted her to start facing some consequences of her actions, and she does in a big way," Nevins told Entertainment Weekly. "She's absolutely not in the same place as she is in the last seasons." Bobby Cannavale joins the show this season as a new hospital administrator.

The Big C's return sees Cathy (Laura Linney) dealing with the aftermath of her husband Paul's (Oliver Platt) heart attack. Series creator Darlene Hunt won't confirm whether he is indeed dead, but says that we will see him back: "The fact that we have killed off people in our series and want to bring them back, it's very meaningful in that way of the bigger picture of the story we're telling," she tells The Hollywood Reporter. "We try to connect those two worlds with the people who pass on with the way we live our life." She also confirms that Alan Alda will be returning this season.

The Borgias' second season promises to feature "more action, going in more directions," Nevins said during the TCA panel. Executive producer James Flynn later told Deadline that he sees the show running "ideally four seasons," although the show could go beyond that by tackling the later reign of Pope Julius (Colm Feore).

Also on the hot seat is Weeds; Nevins told reporters that the series' upcoming eighth season, which will air in the summer, could be its last. However, he tells THR that it all depends on the direction series creator Jenji Kohan takes with the Mary-Louise Parker starrer.
