After nearly a year of being together in a relationship, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) have finally decided to head separate ways.  The aftermath of the breakup unfolds as How I Met Your Mother enters a new season tonight at 8pm ET/PT.

Last season left viewers with Ted accepting Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) as his wingman while Robin decides to go to Argentina.

Read on to find out what’s in store for another “legendary” episode.

In the season 3 opener entitled “Wait For It,” Robin heads back to New York with Gael, an Argentinean heartthrob, after they share a steamy romantic vacation.  This sexy wind-surfing, bongo-playing masseur has all the ladies swooning, including Lily (Alyson Hannigan), which doesn’t make her new husband Marshall (Jason Segel) very happy.  Robin’s relationship also stirs up some resentment amongst the friends, fueling a lot of tension until they reach a dramatic climax.

As reported previously, Grammy Award-winning recording artist Enrique Iglesias will be playing the role of Robin’s Adonis and is set to appear in at least two episodes.

“Enrique plays a dreamy vacation romance that Robin tries to transplant back into her real life…much to Ted’s dismay,” show Executive producer Craig Thomas confirmed to TV Guide. “The character, Gael, is exactly the guy you don’t want your ex-girlfriend hooking up with next.  In addition to being a sexy, guitar-playing surfer/massage therapist, the guy looks a like lot Enrique Iglesias.  It drives Ted nuts.”

The star-studded premiere will also feature Mandy Moore as she sheds her wholesome image to play Ted’s love interest.  She’ll be portraying Amy, a tattooed party girl whom Ted hooks up with in retaliation to Robin starting to date.  Just like Ted, she is also trying to win her break up with her ex-boyfriend Stiv.  After a night of drinking and making out, Ted wakes up the next morning, alone, and uncertain of what transpired the night before.

Another reason to watch the premiere of How I Met Your Mother, according to executive producer Carter Bay, is the major hint that will be dropped about the “mother.”

“Episode one will show that we haven’t forgotten the title of our show in a very big way,” he revealed.
