With the cast of How I Met Your Mother signing on for at least three more seasons, it appears that we will have to wait a long time before we learn the identity of the mother of Ted's children. While that might send the show in different and pointless directions, series co-creator Carter Bays assures fans that the series is getting back to its primary roots.

"At the end of the season, we will address the title of our show," Bays revealed to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, adding that the last four episodes will feature "big events in the lives of our characters -- specifically Ted [Josh Radnor].  We're going to wrap up some things that have been left dangling."
How I Met Your Mother is available on Amazon Prime.

Of course Bays wouldn't explore on how the revelation will play out on How I Met Your Mother but it's not likely that the central mystery of the show will completely be resolved.  However, Bays hinted on how it will affect the fourth season's conclusion.

"But I will say at the very least that the season will end with a complete sentence," he teased. "We've left some sentence fragments dangling in past seasons, but this year, there will either be a period, a question mark or an exclamation point.  We will be giving the audience that."

How I Met Your Mother began in 2005 with the first season revolving around Ted's quest to find “the one” as told in the year 2030 by Ted (voiced by Bob Saget), who gathers his daughter and son to tell them the story of how he met their mother.  The mystery, however, has not been answered. Instead, we get to see Ted's love adventures unfold slowly, and get to know other players as well, including Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders).

How I Met Your Mother airs every Monday at 8:30pm on CBS.
