Jennifer Morrison has been cast in the new J.J. Abrams helmed
Star Trek film. Morrison, who plays Dr. Allison Cameron on
House, was spotted outside of some sound stages where
Star Trek recently began filming, but it wasn't until this morning when TV Guide's Michael Ausiello broke the news straight from the mouth of
Trek director J.J. Abrams. Abrams confirmed Morrison's casting in
Trek, saying: “She is indeed in the movie, and she is most excellent!” There has been no confirmation, however, on which role Morrison will be inhabiting. Early internet speculation had her in the role of Yeoman Rand, the secretary and object of Captain Kirk's affection, but Abrams denied this with a flat out, “She is not.”
The current belief on the internet is that Jennifer Morrison will be playing the role of Carol Marcus, who bore Kirk a son. This has not bee officially confirmed as of yet. Also unclear is when Morrison will start shooting her scenes, or if she already has, and whether or not it's interfered with her duties on
House. Of course, with the writers' strike ongoing, there won't be many more episodes of
House to film anyway. Ausiello asked Abrams if the writers' strike will do anything to the
Star Trek movie. It won't: the Trek script is finished and locked.
Morrison is the second actor from a big name TV series to join
Star Trek.
Zachary Quinto, who plays Sylar on
Heroes, was cast this summer as the iconic Spock. He will play the Young Spock, and Leonard Nimoy will return to his role as Old Spock. It is still unclear how that will all work out and make sense. Morrison's casting is good news for
House fans, and even though we don't know who she'll be playing in the movie, I'm happy that Morrison is getting some high-profile work outside of
House.
