More Heroes casting news today in the form of yet another super powered individual. Former The Nine star Dana Davis will be joining the regular cast as Monica, a good-natured character whose power is, for now, shrouded in secrecy. Dana joins the ranks of Dania Romirez, David Anders, Lyndsy Fonseca, and Barry Shabaka Henley as new regular or recurring characters joining Heroes in its second season.
All of the new additions have Heroes fans Nervous. It has already been suggested that the original cast may not be returning in its full capacity, and the sheer number of new characters will naturally demand significant screen time to develop into the plot of Heroes Season 2.
Masi Oka (Hiro) is guaranteed to return, as is Hayden Panettiere (Claire) and Zachery Quinto (sylar). Taking a cue strictly from the Season 1 finale, there are at least three characters whose were left in pretty dire circumstances including Greg Grunberg’s Matt, Milo Ventimiglia’s Peter, and Adrian Pasdar’s Nathan.
At least one recurring character from last season, Candice (Missy Peregrym), expected lost may actually be returning. The actress appeared as part of the Reaper panel at the CW’s press tour today and hinted heavily that she may be returning to the show in a guest capacity.
Heroes creator Tim Kring had stated several times in the beginning of Heroes‘ production that he had originally intended each season to follow a new set of characters. Later in season 1, Kring shifted gears and assured fans that the season 1 characters would continue to be relevant through season 2.
With the amount of casting being announced for Heroes season 2, it is hard to imagine that all of the original crop will get equal time. One of the challenges for Heroes during its first season was giving enough screen time to each character, a problem that was punctuated with the mismanagement of the first group encounter in the season 1 finale.
