According to TVGuide’s always reliable Michael Ausiello, Grey’s Anatomy will be adding a new cast member sometime this season. Elizabeth Reaser, who had a role on TNT’s Saved, will be joining the cast as a psychiatrist. This makes a lot of sense; if there’s anything the characters on Grey’s Anatomy need, it’s a shrink. Reaser is somebody that I’m not at all familiar with. Her face kind of rings a bell, but after looking at her IMDB page, I can’t recall ever seeing any of her appearances. Ausiello is saying that, although Reaser will begin her Grey’s stint in a recurring role, there is a strong possibility that she will join the cast as a regular, a la Eric Dane.
The cast of Grey’s Anatomy is already large, and I wonder if this news may mean that another character may be leaving. You’d think that ABC would publicize this casting news more, but perhaps they want to keep it on the down low. Grey’s Anatomy isn’t afraid of laying down a big twist, and I wouldn’t put it past the writers to either kill off a character or have one unexpectedly leave. Also, who is this psychiatrist being brought in to treat? I’m not even going to touch that question; every major character probably needs at least a little therapy. -Oscar Dahl, BuddyTV Senior Writer
