On the new Oxygen reality series The Glee Project (Sundays at 9pm), the winner will receive a seven-episode guest role on the hit FOX series Glee. Every Monday I’ll try to help the writers out by giving my two cents about what role one of the breakout stars of The Glee Project should play.
First up is Matheus, the 4’9” aspiring personal trainer who won the premiere challenge and starred in the group’s music video for Katy Perry’s “Firework.”
Role: Zeke Zizes, Lauren’s younger brother (the size difference alone has huge comedic potential). He’s an incoming freshman with a short stature but a big personality. He’s hot-tempered and incredibly confident, willing to stand up to anyone. Zeke is a bit like a human version of Scrappy Doo.
Storylines: Zeke is very protective of his big sister, so his major story is getting into a feud with Puck, trying to ensure that the bad boy doesn’t take advantage of Lauren. Eventually Zeke grows to admire Puck and tries to model his own life after him.
In a secondary storyline, Zeke’s confidence lets him shamelessly flirt with any and every girl he meets (even Sue!), but most of his infatuation is focused on Santana, who always finds new and increasingly hilarious ways to mock Zeke’s height. Eventually, his constant pestering and flirtation leads to Santana finally coming out as a lesbian.
Finally, in a recurring joke, Brittany believes that Zeke is a figment of her imagination, like the Great Gazoo from The Flintstones.
Song: “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake, sung to Santana. This would give him a chance to show off his confidence, his flirtatious style and his sweet dance moves.
Sample Scene:
INT. MCKINLEY HALLWAY – DAY
(SANTANA is taking a book out of her locker when ZEKE comes up behind her.)
ZEKE
Looking good, hot stuff.
SANTANA
What do you want now?
ZEKE
How about you and I ditch school and go play a little putt-putt golf, if you know what I mean.
SANTANA
Are you kidding me? Moves on to the next girl, lest you wants my boot upside your head.
ZEKE
Oh, I’m down with knocking boots with you any time.
SANTANA
Now I know you didn’t just say that.
ZEKE
Why are we playing these games? I want you, you want me, let’s just stop pretending, go back to my parents’ Jacuzzi and see what happens.
(SANTANA picks ZEKE up by his shirt, whirls him around and seats him in the water fountain so they’re now eye to eye.)
SANTANA
Listen up, Shrinky Dinks, my body is a roller coaster, and you must be this tall to ride this ride. Quit looking at my C-cups and go play on the tea cups, cuz I’m from Lima Heights Adjacent, and you don’t wants no piece of this. The only short stack I’m interested in comes from the four dollar breakfast buffet at Breadstix on Saturday. Now one more word out of you and I will ends you, then use your tiny little baby bones as toothpicks.
(SANTANA leaves and ZEKE stares at her.)
ZEKE
She wants me.
