Like other primetime underdogs, Friday Night Lights is now facing the possibility of cancellation, as expected, because of insufficient ratings.  NBC has originally commissioned the series for a 22-episode order for the second season, but due to the WGA writer’s strike, only 15 episodes were aired.  And though there are still remaining episodes left in the order, comments made by NBC chief Ben Silverman during the announcement of the second season DVD strongly indicate that the show will not be renewed for a third season.

But while things may look bleak for the Dillon Panthers, avid viewers will be pleased to know that there are several fan-driven movements starting up in an attempt to keep the show on the air.

First up is a petition to save Friday Night Lights that involves sending light bulbs to NBC to urge the network to “keep the lights on.”  According to the folks at Best Week Ever, sending light bulbs is their way of showing support for the series.  And if it breaks during shipping, the shattered glass might even loosely hint that if “You try to take away our Panthers, and we might just cut you.”

If light bulbs aren’t your thing, you can also opt for mini footballs.  Similar to Jericho‘s nuts campaign, there is also a movement trying to raise money to send mini footballs to the network.  So far, they have about 500 footballs, but are hoping to ship around 2,500.  For more on this campaign, visit savefridaynightlights.tv.

Additionally, there is a Facebook group that is organizing to send bottles of Clear Eyes eyedrops to NBC, playing on the “clear eyes, full hearts can’t lose” motto, while Give Me My Remote is encouraging fans to make videos explaining why they love Friday Night Lights, which will also be sent to NBC.
