The wait until the fall premiere of Dexter’s season 4 may seem intolerable to fans – and it is – but at least the Showtime hit’s executive producer Sara Colleton has some nice tidbits of information on what Dexter fans should expect when the lovable serial killer returns to our screens.

“This season, we’re going to deal with: Can a serial killer juggle a personal life, work, and his ‘dark passenger’?” reveals executive producer Sara Colleton. “In other words, can Dexter have it all? Which is something all of us grapple with every day of our lives. So we’re taking something that is a very human dilemma and putting it through the prism of Dexter’s special needs.”

As we all know, last season saw Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) with pregnant wife Rita (Julie Benz) tie the knot (where Dexter vowed to be “the best husband and father he could be”). So is it safe to assume that Dexter will become a father on the upcoming season?

As if that wasn’t complicated enough for Dexter to balance, there will be an addition to the cast: a yet-to-be-cast male antagonist who will “cross paths with Dexter in a major, dramatic way.”  Word is, the Dexter casting people are on the lookout for a Jeff Daniels type to play the role.

“He will illuminate a lot about Dexter’s life and force him to make some tough choices,” Colleton says.

His sister Deb, meanwhile, played by Hall’s real-life wife Jennifer Carpenter, might just get dangerously close to Dexter’s secret this season, teased Colleton.

“All the way through the season, Deb — in her need to know her father more — is going to get closer and closer to figuring out who Dexter’s mother was and her relationship with her father,” says Colleton.

In other news, the Dexter Season 2 DVD ranked among the top DVD titles this week, proving that the Showtime series indeed has a major following.
