The bizarre flash-forward scene in the last episode of Desperate Housewives didn’t really answer the question of whether Susan, played by Terri Hatcher, and Mike, played by James Denton, will be back together.  And it is safe to assume that Desperate Housewives fans are desperate to know the couple’s fate, as it took them a lot of time to get back together.

Such fans will be disappointed, as Denton recently confirmed to People that, after all the time it took to fix their marriage, Susan and Mike are history.

“Mike and Susan have definitely split up,” Denton confirms.

If it is any consolation, however, Wisteria Lane’s favorite plumber says that he will still be returning to the show despite failing to make their marriage work, although he is not sure how he’d fit in the storyline.

“I’m not sure exactly in what capacity.  [Series creator] Marc Cherry is being a little cagey,” he says.  “It’s going to be interesting to see what happens.  But I will certainly be on the show. It’s a relief to me, trust me.”

Fans appear to be divided regarding the split.  Some point out the prolonged effort to get the two back together that renders the split-up rather pointless, while others are happy because to them, Susan had become so immature that Mike supposedly deserves someone better.  Regardless of their opinions, one thing is for sure: the hunky plumber is back on the market and it is of major interest what role he will play in the upcoming season.

The Nashville, Tennessee native, who is taking on baseball as the show is off the air this summer, was reportedly on the brink of leaving show business to take on a job as a physical education teacher when he bagged the role in Desperate Housewives.
