While most fans can’t wait for September 28 to roll around with the debut of the fifth season of ABC’s Desperate Housewives, some are already contemplating on whether the five year jump was a right move for the show, which is set to end in seven seasons, creator Marc Cherry revealed in last month’s TCA.  However, more recently, the executive producers for the dramedy, Bob Daily and Sabrina Wind sat down with the Boston Herald to talk about the five year leap and what will happen following the last season’s ending.

“The jump will seem odd in the first episode, but at the end of the episode, people will be on board with it,” Daily admits.  “It will not be as jarring a change as people think it might be.”

However, Wind assured fans that “The jump doesn’t change the characters as who you know them to be, even if they are in different circumstances.  It will be still the same great ‘Desperate Housewives’ stories.  They are still funny, wicked and full of truths.”

Daily also dishes uot on Teri Hatcher’s character, Susan, who we last saw come home to the arms of new recruit Gale Harold, who plays Susan’s yet unnamed new love interest.  Daily says that among the women, Susan was the one who “has gone through the biggest change,” as she has “gone from the woman who wants the fairy-tale romance to the woman who has given up on fairy-tale romances and is now in a relationship with a guy who wants more of a relationship than she’s looking to get.”

Fans won’t have to worry, enough flashbacks will be supplied to explain further how Susan came to be. As for Gabrielle (Eva Longoria), she continues to deal with Carlos being blind.  Daily adds that she “has probably the biggest change of circumstances.”

Interestingly, Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) did not make an appearance in the fourth season finale, following her being driven out by her angry neighbors.  This season, though, producers promise that she will be adding some mystery to the episodes.

“It’s best when the mystery is tied to our characters.  Edie’s circumstances have changed greatly in the premiere,” Daily revealed.  Moreover, he adds that Neal McDonough’s character, who is Edie’s love interesting, is a man with plans of revenge.

To catch the drama and suspense, tune into ABC on September 28 for the season premiere of Desperate Housewives.
