Desperate Housewives: Cast Members Talk About the Time Leap
Thursday, May 22, 2008

desperate housewivesThe fourth season finale of Desperate Housewives flashed ahead five years, brining about many changes on Wisteria Lane.  Gabby (Eva Longoria Parker) appears to be raising two daughters, Bree (Marcia Cross) has a cookbook coming out and her son seems to be her agent, Katherine's (Dana Delany) daughter Dylan is getting married, Lynette (Felicity Huffman) is dealing with her juvenile delinquent sons, and Susan (Teri Hatcher) has a new man in her life, played by Gale Harold.

The time leap, which has taken many viewers of Desperate Housewives by surprise, is a drastic change for the ABC dramedy that will possibly shape its fifth season, which is like to begin airing end of September.  According to series creator Marc Cherry, the big jump is necessary as it offers “cleanliness” to the show.

Your Take

naley23 said: I dont think they will make it.

"One of the problems I had with Season 2 was that I had to keep going with the previous year's stuff,” Cherry told USA Today.  “I learned you have to go back to square one to build up the tension again.  Finally, this year I said, 'Why don't we really mix it up?' "

Like most fans of Desperate Housewives, most of the show's cast members were shocked to find out about the big changes in store for their characters, especially since not all of them might make it on the canvas five years into the future.

"I didn't believe it," Felicity Huffman said.  "I thought it was some bizarre rumor."

Nevertheless, they are thrilled with the fact that the time leap paves the way for more possibilities and scenarios.

"It's a great way to push the reset button," Eva Longoria Parker said.

"It's very liberating for both the writers and actors," added Dana Delany, who was thrilled with the time leap that reminded her of the 1991 series finale of China Beach that jumped 20 years into the future.
