Dancing with the Stars 7: Toni Braxton and Alec Mazo
Dancing with the Stars 7: Toni Braxton and Alec Mazo
Dancing with the Stars is beginning soon, and I have been taking some time every day to contemplate each couple's potential and discuss their pros and cons. Astute readers will note that I failed to post yesterday, but that was because I was hanging out with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki on the set of Supernatural in Vancouver. Writing about Dancing with the Stars is fun and all, but I hope nobody blames me for prioritizing the Winchester brothers in this particular instance.

Dancing with the Stars is a feel-good kind of show. Every week on the show, we see all the contestants hanging out, rooting for one another, and just enjoying each other's company. Everyone has a good time. This is not the kind of show that people go on just so they can get their exhibitionist rocks off like, I don't know, The Real World or A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila. You know, the kind of shows that feature a catfight every week just to garner higher ratings. And that's why I am so surprised that Dancing with the Stars fans have gotten so riled up about some of my posts. Who knew passions could run so high? I guess that just goes to show you how much people love and admire all of these dancers, particularly the pros who have dedicated their entire lives to learning and perfecting their craft.

Toni Braxton

Pros:
This sultry songbird is no stranger to performing. She's made a career on singing the saddest songs ever written. Toni Braxton is super sexy, which never hurts in ballroom dancing, and she looks to be in fantastic shape in her rehearsal photos. Singers have traditionally done very well on Dancing with the Stars, probably because they already have a good sense of rhythm and musicality, so hopefully, Toni will be no different.

Cons:
One of the reasons why singers do well on Dancing with the Stars is because they already have a lot of practice in learning and performing choreography. Karina Smirnoff's partner Mario was very strong last season, particularly in the Latin styles, and I'm sure that his experiences dancing in his music videos helped tremendously. Same goes for fifth season runner-up Melanie Brown.

However, if you take a look at Toni Braxton's music videos, she sings a lot of slow songs and she doesn't have a whole lot of dancing in them. I'm thinking that she might be good at performing the slower, sultrier ballroom styles, like the rumba, but she might have trouble with the fast-paced stuff.

Alec Mazo

Poor Alec Mazo. He took Dancing with the Stars by storm in the first season when he and Kelly Monaco narrowly out-danced John O'Hurley and Charlotte Jorgensen to take home the mirror ball trophy, but ever since then, he's had the misfortune of being paired with dancing duds. Alec knows all too well that pretty girls don't often have what it takes to do well in this competition. In season 4, he and supermodel Paulina Porizkova were the first to be eliminated. In the following season, he was again eliminated in the first week, this time with model Josie Maran.

These two consecutive seasons of failure have no doubt instilled in him a thirst to win again, and I'm sure he's glad to have a partner like Toni Braxton, who is not only beautiful, but also has the potential to become a champion. Alec got a taste for winning with Kelly, and I'm pretty sure he's going to do whatever it takes this season to join Cheryl Burke and Julianne Hough in becoming a two-time champion.
