Nicholas Brendon, known for playing Xander on the cult hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has landed a guest-starring role on CBS’ Criminal Minds.  Although the network has yet to issue a statement, Brendon’s official website confirmed his appearance on the show late last month.

Brendon will reportedly play a computer expert named Kevin Lynch who becomes part of the investigative team.  The website states there is a possibility the 36-year-old actor will appear in more than one episode, but this will all depend on how fans respond to his character.

Nicholas Brendon‘s episode, the eighth in Criminal Minds” current season, will not air until November 21, but for those who want to know more about it, continue reading for some major spoilers.

According to Spoiler TV, the eighth episode is entitled “Penelope” and will resolve the major cliffhanger presented in the previous episode.  Because the spoiler for “Penelope” relies heavily on the cliffhanger, it is necessary for this article to divulge what will transpire at the end of episode 3.7, so here goes.

At the end of episode 3.7, entitled “Lucky,” a man named Colby meets Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) in a diner, where she assists him in unfreezing his laptop.  They go on a date, and Colby shoots Garcia and walks away.

Fast forward to episode 3.8, where an emergency crew is desperately trying to save Garcia’s life.  While this is going on, 5-year-old, 9-year-old and 18/20 year-old Garcia appear on-screen as well. Despite the crew’s efforts, Garcia eventually flatlines.

Viewers then see the 5-year-old Garcia in a ballet outfit laughing with her parents and the 9-year-old Garcia proudly showing her parents a comic book.  The much older Garcia appears in a funeral scene with two caskets, most likely of her parents, as well as a scene showing her dressed in a tough and punk-like manner.

Fans of Garcia need not fret as she manages to survive the gun shot, despite having flatlined.

As for Nicholas Brendon‘s Kevin, the team enlists his help to crack Garcia’s system to see what she was working on, hoping to get a lead.  He also helps the team find a man with the initials “C.B.” in the bar association system.  For some unexplained reason, Garcia is in her apartment trying to block him, after which a game of cat and mouse transpires.  Additionally, Kevin finds something alarming that he sends to Garcia to give her a clue.  When they meet at the end, a possible love connection between the two tech-savvy individuals is hinted.

Catch Criminal Minds every Wednesday on CBS.
