Gary Busey Signs Up for 'Celebrity Rehab'
Wednesday, June 11, 2008

celebrity rehabAs Celebrity Rehab heads into its sophomore season, the participants of Dr. Drew Pinsky's reality series are gradually making their way out in the open.  As hinted previously, season 1 cast member Jeff Conaway has already expressed his desire to continue with the program he once prematurely left.  Now, another controversial actor will be checking into the infamous Pasadena facility and he comes in the form of Gary Busey.

An Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-nominated actor, Busey has appeared in numerous films, including The Buddy Holly Story, Big Wednesday, Lethal Weapon, Point Break, Valley of the Wolves Iraq and Under Siege.  He'll be starring in the horror flick Nite Tales: The Movie and the family-sports-themed movie Down and Distance, which will both hit theaters later this year.

Unlike Conaway, who has had continued addiction to alcohol, cocaine and painkillers, Busey won't be undergoing treatment on the show. In fact, he has signed up to serve as mentor to the new class of patients, including Conaway (Grease), Sean Stewart, son of music icon Rod Stewart, model-actress Amber Smith, former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler, ‘80s video vixen Tawny Kitaen, Rodney King, who gained a notorious after his brutal beating by police was caught on video in 1992, and former American Idol hopeful Nikki McKibbin.

As advisor to the group, Busey, who claims 13 years of sobriety, will reportedly share his past experiences of cocaine addiction and his journey to recovery, as well as help the troubled celebrities with their detoxification process in the treatment facility.

Also helping the group, obviously, is Dr. Drew Pinsky, who is set to return to bring his expertise as an addictionologist to help take the group through the intense 21-day program

Filming is underway for the second season of Celebrity Rehab, which is set to debut in October on VH1.
