After much speculation, a spokesperson for All My Children
has finally confirmed that Alexa Havins
, known for her portrayal of Babe Carey, will be leaving the daytime drama this fall.
Taking over the role is actress Amanda Baker, though the 27-year-old actress is currently starring in another ABC soap opera, General Hospital: Night Shift,
wherein she plays student nurse Jolene Crowell. Bakers additional acting credits include One Tree Hill
, Palmetto Pointe
and Campus Ladies
Alexa Havins' final appearance will be on October 8. In an unusual move, Baker will begin appearing as Babe on the same day.
"[Alexa Havins'] Babe will hug Krystal [Bobbie Eakes
] and when they separate from the hug, it will be Amanda Baker [in] the role," the representative for All My Children
Havin's departure from the series was first spoken about when her husband, actor Justin Bruening
, announced he would not be renewing his contract on All My Children
. However, no official statements about Havin's exit were made by the show at the time.
Bruening, who played Jamie Martin, was last seen on the show on August 31. His departure from the show did not come as a surprise to some, as he had long been vocal of his dissatisfaction with his character. Though not the first to play Jamie, Bruening held on to the role the longest.
As for Havins, the 26-year-old actress first joined All My Children
in October 2003, a few months after Bruening signed on to the show. She originated role, but was immediately immersed into a major storyline involving a baby swap. For her work on the daytime drama, Havins received a 2005 Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress and a 2005 Soap Opera Digest
Award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress.
It was also in 2005 that Havins and Bruening exchanged vows. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest
, the couple told the story of Bruening's proposal. Apparently, Bruening asked Havins to marry him right after they taped a scene where Bruening's Jamie proposed to Havin's Babe.
