As Desperate Housewives goes temporarily off the airwaves, Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan Mayer on the hit series, drops by Nairobi, Kenya to help transmit aid for a non-profit organization that provides education, food, and housing to children and adults alike who are affected by poverty and AIDS in the African capital.
And while Hatcher presented the check for the $35,000 raised for the donation, she said it was her 10-year-old daughter who made the big impression on a school they visited in Nairobi, not she, the big television star.

Neal McDonough is moving to Wisteria Lane, after playing Wyatt Cain on Tin Man, a three-part television miniseries re-imaging of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The 42-year-old actor has joined the cast of ABC’s Desperate Housewives as a regular next season, according to Michael Ausiello, former TV Guide gossip columnist who has now taken a new post at Entertainment Weekly.
Aside from Tin Man, McDonough is also known for portraying Jack Freed on the short-lived American drama-thriller Traveler. He is also credited for his roles on Medical Investigation, Boomtown, Band of Brothers, Murder One, and The Incredible Hulk, just to name a few. On Thursday the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the top 10 finalists for this year's Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series. Now, though ATAS isn't talking, Gold Derby's Emmy guru Tom O'Neil is slowly but surely getting his hands on the lists for the acting categories. In the world of TV awards shows, this is akin to O'Neil scoring 50-yard-line tickets to the Super Bowl for all us Emmy aficionados.
These lists are based on the popular vote of all eligible ATAS voters. Now they will watch select episodes of each of their work, rank them, and a combination of the two voting methods will be used to determine the final nominees. We'll be updating throughout the week as we get more of the top 10 lists. For now, we have Supporting Actor in a Drama and Lead Actress in a Comedy.

The appeal of Doug Savant's Tom Scavo on Desperate Housewives isn't sophistication, it's the fact that he's just a big, dumb, lovable kid. He's rather roughhouse with his kids than help do the dishes. He'll quit his job on a whim to open his own pizzeria without consulting his family. Sure, he's not perfect, but he's basically a good man trying to do the right thing, even when he has no idea what that is. But when things get rough, Tom Scavo steps up and is willing to do anything to please his wife, up to and including wearing a black thong.
