It’s Glee premiere week! This Friday night, after we’ve all left work to start the weekend, we can sit down to watch the two-hour season 6 premiere of Glee. FOX has released another performance preview to get everyone excited as we count down the days to the show’s return.

First, we got a preview of Blaine and the Warblers performing Ed Sheeran’s “Sing,” and now we’re treated to the McKinley High alumni (the original New Directions) dancing around their old stomping grounds as they sing A-ha’s “Take On Me.”

After an introduction by star Chris Colfer, the video starts with the alumni in the choir room and Rachel and Kurt at the helm; this season, the two will be rebooting the glee club. Since it’s been very quiet around the halls of McKinley thanks to Sue’s disbanding of the glee club, Kurt says, “We are going to give McKinley a little taste of what they’ve been missing.”

As “Take On Me” begins, Artie is drawing the Glee characters, and then the drawings come to life, morphing into black and white animation reminiscent of A-ha’s music video for this song. This whole performance is very intriguing; whether you’ve seen the original music video or not, Glee has done a fantastic job of going back and forth between live action and the animation, with the characters hopping in and out of the drawings.

As you can see, the incorporation of the black and white animation is obviously the highlight of the performance. Aside from that, it’s also funny to see Sue in this video. She’s looking at the animated drawings and proceeds to insert herself into the mix; she’s pushing everyone around, with the original gang running away from her and they continue performing in the lunch room. But, of course, the fun’s gotta end at some point when Sue Sylvester is around; as the song ends, she takes Artie’s drawings and throws them away.

The other four songs that will be featured in the second hour of the Glee premiere are Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope,” Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” Wilson Pickett’s “Mustang Sally” and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home.” The first hour will include songs by Alanis Morissette, Ed Sheeran and Van Halen, along with tunes from Little Shop of Horrors and Frozen.

What did you think of the performance? Are you glad to see the alumni back in the halls of McKinley? And did you like the animation?

The final season of Glee premieres Friday, January 9 at 8pm on FOX.
