After weeks of rumors that Drew Barrymore would be directing the third Twilight movie Eclipse, new reports have come out that Paul Weitz has gotten the job. His brother, Chris Weitz is currently about to start filming New Moon.

Paul Weitz Gets 'Eclipse'

Move over Coen Brothers, the Weitz Brothers are taking over. The pair have already directed American Pie and About a Boy together and although they won’t technically be collaborating on their respective Twilight films, I imagine they’ll be working very closely.

Paul Weitz certainly has experience to bring to the table. Besides the movies he’s collaborated with his brother, he’s also directed In Good Company and American Dreamz. Will he be able to bring Eclipse to life?

Eclipse has the potential to be the most action driven of all the Twilight films. The climax of the movie has a large battle and will require a lot of special effects. Weitz has stuck to dramas in the past so I’m not convinced he’d be able to handle the CGI and action sequences required to do Eclipse justice. I could be wrong, but I know how high my hopes are for the movie which is to get a Summer 2010 release.

How do you think Twilight stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Peter Facinelli, and Taylor Lautner will fair with the Weitz brothers? Do you think the directing team has potential? Do you think this is just another rumor to add to the pile? Do you fear for the fate of Eclipse or New Moon?
