Not all Supernatural fans are willing to crown season 4 the best of the series, but most can agree that the show is firing on all cylinders this year.  The stakes have been raised, Heaven and Hell are battling it out and the Winchesters are caught right in the middle of it all.  We may not be able to predict what will happen in the remaining episodes of the season, but we can look back and rank the first 10 installments.  Last week I asked Supernatural fans to vote for the best of season 4, and thousands of people chimed in with their favorites.  Read on to see which episode was crowned the best of the bunch.

I would have named “In the Beginning” the best episode of season 4, but that actually landed in second place in our poll with a total of 2,004 votes.  First place, with 2,435 votes, went to “Lazarus Rising,” which is an excellent choice.  Not only did the episode feature the resurrection of Dean Winchester, but it also introduced Castiel to the Supernatural mythology.  “Lazarus Rising” definitely deserves some love for bringing us the first appearance of Misha Collins.

Here’s how the other episodes ranked:

3.  “Heaven and Hell” – 1,665 votes
4.  “Yellow Fever” – 1,624 votes
5.  “I Know What You Did Last Summer” – 1,460 votes
6.  “Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester” – 1,096 votes
7.  “Monster Movie” – 1,031 votes
8.  “Wishful Thinking” – 970 votes
9.  “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester” – 904 votes
10.  “Metamorphosis” – 690 votes

What do you think of the ranking?  Did “Metamorphosis” deserve to come in last place?  I agree with most of the placement, though I might have swapped “Yellow Fever” and “Monster Movie.”  “Yellow Fever” does have Dean’s amazingly girly scream, but overall I prefer the black-and-white homage to the horror flicks of the 1930s.

Chime in below with your thoughts on the best and worst of Supernatural‘s fourth season.  What would you rank differently?
