Sons of Anarchy‘s season 5 is coming to an end tonight with the finale titled, “J’ai Obtenu Cette.” In comparison with other episodes, the finale is somewhat understated and feels very slow moving, but it works beautifully. The tension builds throughout the episode to a crucial point and even then it doesn’t let up until the very end.

Spoiler alert: This preview contains some Sons of Anarchy spoilers for tonight’s finale. I don’t reveal any major plot points, but you are warned! Read at your own risk.

Jax and Bobby are still on the outs over the later’s decision to make a deal with Clay. Bobby strongly believes that what he did was in Jax’s best interest, but Jax sees it as a betrayal. Will they be able to come to an agreement? Or, is the damage permanent?

Tara moves forward with her plans to leave Charming with the boys. She receives several visits at the hospital that influence her decision to leave. Her lawyer drops off documents to secure the boys’ futures. Someone else stops by and reveals a shocking event to Tara.

Though, most importantly, Gemma confronts Tara, who stands strong against her mother-in-law. Gemma’s not one to give up easily and she makes a dangerous threat. Is it enough to keep Tara and the boys in Charming?

The way this all plays out is shocking and distressing to watch. With everything that happens in the episode, Tara’s decision plays a crucial role in the set up for season 6.

While Tara is at the hospital, Jax and SAMCRO help Nero’s crew fight a rival gang that has been terrorizing the neighborhood. Just as Jax is trying to get out of the life, Nero gets pulled back in. Will they both be able to get out like they initially planned?

After helping Nero, Jax sets up the meeting with Pope to turn over Tig. As many suspected from the trailer, Jax pulls a gun on the unsuspecting Tig at a remote location. They wait for Pope to arrive.

Clay gets ready for his trip to Belfast and is looking forward to getting away. Gemma decides whether she will or won’t join him on his trip. Clay has a touching moment with Juice as he gets ready to leave.

While everything may seem to be going according to a plan, there is always the unexpected that can’t be accounted for. This is especially true when individuals have their own goals that interfere with another person’s. Will Jax be able to successfully pull off his plan? Or, will unforeseen obstacles cause harm and even death?

The ending image is iconic and reflective of Jax Teller’s life.

Other tidbits:

  • Lee Toric visits with Otto.
  • The lovebirds get named.
  • Tig finds a new love of sorts.
  • It’s Sons of Anarchy, so be prepared for shooting and killing.
  • There is a scene that is unexpected and gory. So much so that it caused me to throw up. Yep, I did.
