All aboard the season 10 dance train as we pull into Los Angeles for the first round of So You Think You Can Dance auditions. The show opens with some All-Stars reminiscing about their auditions. Resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy are joined by guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family). Both men are looking dapper in bow-ties.

Which Women Are Going to Vegas?

Malece Miller: This 19-year-old contemporary dancer from Salt Lake City, Utah comes from a difficult economic background. Her incredibly excited mom caught Nigel Lythgoe’s attention with her loud cheering for her daughter. Her contemporary dance scores a ticket to Vegas.

Taylor Ward: She has the most emotional story of the night for several reasons. First we learn that she played college softball before giving it up to pursue her dancing dream. She was very close to her grandfather who supported her decision. Taylor becomes emotional when discussing his recent death. Then, when practicing backstage, she dislocates her knee. Still, she auditions, and after being sent to choreography, she clinches her ticket to Las Vegas. I am not sure exactly why, but she is my favorite So You Think You Can Dance contestant of the night.

Which Men Are Going to Vegas?

Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall: This 18-year old street performer from Las Vegas earns a standing ovation and a ticket back to his hometown. It is even more amazing since he was not aware that Las Vegas is the home of the next round of So You Think You Can Dance competition!

Elijah Laurant: He performs a serious and artistic dance while also making the boldest fashion choice of the evening: a black tutu which he wore around his neck. I’ll bet Nigel Lythgoe and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are jealous. He also scores a ticket to Vegas.

Armen “Armen Way” Avetisov: This self-professed rapper performs an excellent Latin ballroom dance and gets his ticket to Las Vegas.

Paul Karmiryan: This 21-year-old won the Armenian version of So You Think You Can Dance, prompting Jesse Tyler Ferguson to ask, of the Armenian version, “Who plays the quirky, red-headed guest judge?” His Latin ballroom also merits a ticket to Vegas.

Who’s NOT Going to Vegas?

Morris Isby: This B-boy performs well, but is sent to choreography, where his Vegas dream crumbles.

Eric and Lorenzo Chapman: These brothers, whose father passed away unexpectedly, inherited his love of dance. When they start down the wrong life path, they channel their energy into the positive aspects of hip-hop and community outreach. Although they do not receive a ticket to Vegas, they do receive recognition of the work they are doing.

So You Think You Can Dance airs again Tuesday May 15 at 9pm on FOX.
