As Once Upon a Time continues its epic journey through virtually every fairy tale familiar to TV audiences, the cast continues to grow. Recently, a couple of prominent casting decisions have been made. Who will join Once Upon a Time for episodes in 2012? Keep reading to find out.

Will Gaston Be a Joke?
He was in the Disney film, after all. Granted, Gaston in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast was a handsome, vain and occasionally dangerous joke. But still a joke. Considering the casting of this part on Once Upon a Time, we may get a wee bit of humor when Gaston makes his appearance.

E! Online has reported that Sage Brocklebank (best known to TV viewers as officer Buzz McNab on Psych) will play Gaston in episode 12 of Once Upon a Time. The episode, “Skin Deep,” will also feature the appearance of Belle herself, played by Lost‘s Emilie de Ravin.

Because nothing on Once Upon a Time can happen without the interference of Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle), this “Beauty and the Beast” episode will give us information about how the creature impacted the lives of Belle, her father and, of course, the Beast. There is no word yet on the casting of those two final parts.

In case you were wondering about what aspects of the “Beauty and the Beast” story Once Upon a Time will take, keep in mind that the character of Gaston only exists in the Disney version. So you can use that as a basic guide.

Even Grumpy Dwarves Can Find Love
Grumpy is getting a love interest. What saintly maiden could Once Upon a Time get to put up with this surly dwarf? According to The Hollywood Reporter, her part will be played by Amy Acker.

Acker, well-known to audiences from her roles on Angel and Dollhouse, will play the characters of Astrid (in Storybrooke) and Nova (in fairy-tale land). Exactly what her relationship will be with Leroy and Grumpy (Lee Arenberg), we will only find out when the episode airs late in the winter of 2012.

This isn’t Amy Acker’s only foray into fairy-tale TV in 2012. The actress will also have a guest-starring role on Grimm in early February. On that show, she will play a Black Widow character. What exactly does a Black Widow do on a show like Grimm? Executive producer David Greenwalt noted, “She has an issue with men that has to be worked out. And it’s kind of a life and death issue.”

That doesn’t sound good.
