The cast of the Arrow spin-off is slowly coming together with the addition of Jesse L. Martin.

The Law & Order detective will play a familiar role — a detective — in the DC Comics-based The Flash on The CW.

Martin will play Detective West, which TVGuide describes as as “an honest blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry Allen.” In the comics, West is the father of Barry’s eventual wife, Iris.

Martin has had a long television career, starting in 1997 with 413 Hope St. He spent a season on Ally McBeal in the late 90s before settling in for nine years on Law & Order as Detective Ed Green. Most recently, he appeared in Smash.

Barry/The Flash (played by Grant Gustin) and West are the only two characters so far announced for The Flash. The Arrow spin-off kicked off in “The Scientist,” when Barry went to Starling City for a case before he was struck by lightning mixed with chemicals.

But while that was thought to be a “backdoor pilot” episode, The Flash will now film its own standalone pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show will bring on Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter.
