Jerry Seinfeld is set to shake things up on 30 Rock. The 53-year-old award-winning comedian will be returning to his NBC roots as he marks the second season premiere of the acclaimed sitcom.  The new season stars on Thursday, October 4 at 8:30pm ET.

Created by SNL’s Tina Fey, 30 Rock explores the behind the scenes of a fictional sketch comedy show while focusing on a female head writer’s struggle to sustain the show on the air and maintain a social life.  The show stars Tina Fey as Liz Lemon, Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy, and Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan.

“Thursday night is a powerful comedy line up for NBC.  To have Jerry join 30 Rock for its second season launch is impressive, to have him return even for one night in his old Thursday night turf — is just classic,” NBC Co-Chairman Ben Silverman said.

Famed for the long-running sitcom Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld was last seen on NBC’s block as a special guest in an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2006.  After his sitcom went off the air, he was rarely visible on-screen as he returned to stand-up comedy and worked on several writing projects.

“I was thrilled to be asked to guest star on NBC’s hit comedy 30 Rock.  I think it’s going to be so refreshing for me to be playing myself in a show that has nothing to do with neurotic, dysfunctional New York characters,” Jerry Seinfeld said.

“We’re very excited to have Jerry on 30 Rock.  Finally, my parents have an excuse to watch the show,” producer and actress Tina Fey added.

In line with Seinfeld’s comeback on television, he will also create and star on 20 live-action comedy “minisodes” inspired by his experiences in creating the upcoming animated film Bee Movie.  It will also feature some behind the scenes antics that took place during the production of the movie.  The minisodes will run on NBC’s primetime schedule this fall and on the network’s website.
