When Supergirl first premiered, everyone involved was very quick to say that the show would not connect with Arrow and The Flash on The CW. Despite the fact that CBS and The CW are sister networks and Greg Berlanti (and crew) run both shows, a shared universe was out of the question. A crossover wasn’t even on the table.  Now, thanks to recent comments from CBS president Glenn Geller at the TCAs, the speculation fire has been stoked yet again. A crossover between Supergirl and The Flash might be in the works.

IGN reports that Geller was asked about the possibility of a crossover between Supergirl and The Flash at the Television Critics Association. Geller’s comments don’t confirm the existence of a crossover, but they pretty much do the exact opposite of denying it. Geller said first “I have to be very careful about what I say here,” and finished with a vague, “Watch and see what happens.”

Comic book fans are known for making mountains out of molehills with off-hand comments but this as close to a confirmation as fans are going to get. It would be very easy to say that there is nothing planned at the moment or that CBS and Supergirl are open to the possibility. Both are diplomatic but clear denials of such an event. The fact that Geller is having to choose his words carefully is highly suspicious. It suggests that if a crossover isn’t in the works, the deal is in the last stages of being finalized.

As much as fans of both series would like to see it, it is odd thing to tease if it’s not being planned. Supergirl might get a slight boost of ratings from a crossover episode but it doesn’t really need The Flash to be successful. While Supergirl hasn’t maintained its ridiculously high premiere numbers, it is still doing reasonably well and has way higher ratings than The Flash

As for how it would work story-wise the answer is very simple for anyone who has been watching The Flash. The Flash recently introduced the idea of the multiverse in the series. Characters can travel between worlds and alternate dimensions thanks to some wacky science stuff. So it stands to reason that Barry Allen could somehow find himself in the world of Supergirl, even if it does exist in a different reality.

But what do you think? Do Glenn Geller’s comments all but confirm a Supergirl / The Flash crossover? Would you watch such an episode if it existed? Would you rather see Kara travel to Central City or Barry travel to National City or both? Should Oliver Queen from Arrow join in on the action?

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm on CBS, The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8pm on The CW.
