To have kids or not to have kids.  That is the question on tonight’s episode of How I Met Your Mother.  At the bar, all Barney’s looking for is a good girl to sleep with (but what else is new).    His friends point out a hot group of friends sharing some drinks but Barney dismisses them, calling it the Cheerleader Effect.  What is the Cheerleader Effect, you ask?  Well, it’s when women appear hot but only as a group, not individually.  The minute you start pulling them out of the group, their flaws are too horrible to ignore.  Barney receives a phone call, presumably for a late night hookup.  It turns out though, that the hookup has already taken place and it seems that Barney may about to become a father!

All this baby talk has Lily and Marshall thinking: is it time for them to have a baby?  They hit their 30s and babies are all they can see.  They decide that it’s high time they start planning a family so Lily agrees to cook Marshall a romantic dinner and spend the night together.  First, they’ll have to get rid of Robin, who has been staying on their couch while she looks for apartments and jobs.  Once that’s taken care of (by dumping her on Ted), they’re good to go… except that Marshall is called in for an important meeting and is unable to make dinner.  When Lily is left alone, she panics, calling Ted and Robin over while she downs a bottle of wine and weighs the pros and cons of becoming a mother.

Meanwhile, Barney does a celebratory dance through the streets of New York after finding out that he is, in fact, NOT a father.  He decides that this day shall now be known as: Not A Father’s Day.  He makes up shirts, mugs, greeting cards, and even starts a fraternity for people who do not have to deal with paternity.  As Barney celebrates, a very drunk Lily shows up to Marshall’s work, demanding that they make a baby right there on his desk.  He ended up having to excuse himself from his important meeting when Lily removed her clothing outside of the office (featuring windows all around).  When they got home, and when she sobered up, the two agreed that they weren’t ready for a baby – just yet.

Ted and Robin put their baby differences aside – he wants one someday and she’s totally against them – and he offers his spare room to her.  After she catches a glimpse of a baby’s sock, she realizes that she will also want to have a baby one day but right now, she’s still figuring out her life.  The Cheerleader Effect comes back to bite Barney when he realizes that his fraternity are full of losers who could never really get laid, not awesome guys who dodged a bullet.  He heads to a karaoke bar to belt out “Cat’s In The Cradle”.  More Barney singing and dancing, please!
