These days, does any pop star sing live anymore?  In 2004, Ashlee Simpson was famously (or infamously) caught lip syncing on a live performance of Saturday Night Live.  In a 2005 MTV interview, Hilary Duff said, “I don’t think that I 100 percent disagree with lip-synching. When you’re Britney Spears and you’re dancing a perfect choreographed show and you’re changing outfits nine times, then it becomes not so much about the music.”  Speaking of Britney Spears, she’s been seen lip syncing on more than one occasion, particularly at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2008, Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus kicked off a new year of lip syncing pop stars but not only not singing live at her Best of Both Worlds concert, but using a body double.  For shame!

OK magazine got the scoop on the Hannah Montana body double scandal.  At a recent performance on her Best of Both Worlds tour, it became very obvious to fans that suddenly, the girl they paid hundreds or even thousands of dollars to see was no longer on stage.  During Miley’s performance of her hit song “We Got The Party”, her dancers surrounded her with a black sheet while she escaped through a secret door.  When the sheet was pulled away, a body double dressed as Miley continued the song.  The actual Miley returned soon after in a new outfit.

The issue is not so much the body double but the fact that the performance seemed to try to fool fans into thinking it was Miley herself the entire time.  She was lip syncing during the song as if she were Miley, leaving some fans confused and angry.  “I paid good money to see the concert,” one fan told OK magazine.  “I was disappointed and I felt like I was played for a fool.”  The magazine tried to reach Miley’s reps to comment on the subject but they declined.  The video of the Miley switcheroo can be seen on YouTube.
