Earlier this month, BuddyTV reported a string of casting news for the sixth season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. Producers are looking for someone to play a Catholic priest in his 60s, an 18-year-old male patient and his mother, and some foreign girls backpacking across America who end up in Seattle Grace. But that’s not all. The X-Files alum Mitch Pileggi has also been enlisted to reprise his role as Larry Jennings.
According to TV Guide, which first reported the news, Pileggi will once again serve as the Chairman of Seattle Grace’s board of directors. And for the season opener, he will have some official business to tend to —perhaps something that involves Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and George O’Malley’s (T.R. Knight) dreadful condition.
Pileggi first appeared on Grey’s Anatomy in the episode called “Desire,” which aired on May 3, 2007. The installment revolved around the interns of Seattle Grace as they crammed for their upcoming exam while the attending doctors compete for the Chief’s position by tending to the chairman of the hospital board after he is admitted as a patient.
The two-hour season opener of Grey’s Anatomy will air Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 9pm.
Meanwhile, Pileggi has also been cast as John Weller on the upcoming TV feature Xtra Credit. The former X-Files star, who played Walter Skinner, has appeared on various TV series, including Tarzan as Richard Clayton, The Mountain as Colin Dowling, Day Break as Detective Spivak, The Batman as Commissioner Gordon, Sons of Anarchy as Ernest Derby and as Colonel Steven Caldwell on Stargate Atlantis.
In the big screen, Pileggi has worked in Flash of Genius, Basic Instinct, Guilty as Charged, Return of the Living Dead Part II, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Man in the Chair and most recently in Woodshop.
